Well, here’s a bit of news I didn’t see coming!
Variety reports that RADIOHEAD’s Thom Yorke will be providing the score for the recently wrapped remake of SUSPIRIA directed by Luca Guadagnino.
SUSPIRIA is, of course, based upon Dario Argento’s 1977 visual and cinematic masterpiece, which featured a memorable & indelible score by Italian rockers GOBLIN.
Amazon Studios co-financed the film with K Period Media are the producers behind this update of SUSPRIA, which stars Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, and Chloë Grace Moretz with a cameo by original SUSPIRIA star Jessica Harper.
Now, I’ve illustrated in my previous piece here that it’s impossible to “remake” SUSPIRIA. It’s its own thing, but I’m not opposed to this new interpretation, especially with this cast and considering director Guadagnino’s previous work. Having Yorke provide the film’s soundscape sounds like a great way of giving this version its own unique identity.
According to the Variety post, Guadgnino said working with Yorke was “a dream come true,” adding “Our goal is to make a movie that will be a disturbing and transforming experience: for this ambition, we could not find a better partner than Thom.”
SUSPIRIA (2017) will be released in theaters later this year!
