THE SIMPSONS’ Ned Flanders Goes Metal!

Here’s something you probably never expected: a Ned Flanders-themed metal band. Called Okilly Dokilly (after Ned’s unique way of speaking), the band plays hardcore heavy metal while dressed as the popular, Bible-thumping SIMPSONS character.

The homage is more than skin deep. The entire band has Ned names (Red Ned, Thread Ned, Head Ned, Stead Ned, and Bled Ned), they all wear green sweaters with pink collars, and they all have mustaches (though some also have beards, which is a Nedly no-no). They call their sound “Nedal” music, and promise it is “not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk.” Songs include “Nothing At All,” an homage to Ned’s skin-tight ski suit (“Feels like I’m wearing nothing at all”); “Press Destruct Button,” taking lyrics from a “Treehouse of Horror” segment; and “All That is Left,” an ode to the Leftorium.

The Phoenix-based band came up with the idea while spitballing cutesy names for hardcore bands. “The name Okilly Dokilly came up and was very funny to us,” says lead singer Head Ned. “We ran with it.” The band’s goals are humble: “In reality, this is all just an over-the-top attempt at getting Matt Groening’s autograph, even if it comes on a cease and desist letter,” says Head Ned.
